Safety First Approach

Outer Banks Water Safety provides a professional ocean rescue service tailored specifically to the Town of Duck. Our team has over 30 years of combined experience in high-surf environments. We prioritize rapid response and preemptive hazard identification to keep our beaches safe and scannable.

Operations & Guidelines
  • Duck Patrol Locations: Covering all major beach access points in Town.

  • Daily Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (In-Season May–September).

  • Safety Response: Preemptive identifies rip currents and provides rapid medical aid.

  • Uniformed Team: Look for the high-vis yellow and red patrol teams.

Ocean Safety & Response

Our approach to safety is built on proactive scanning and rapid intervention. Operating daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the peak season, our team utilizes advanced equipment and high-visibility protocols to ensure every swimmer in Duck remains within sight of professional protection. We emphasize education as the first line of defense, keeping the public informed on tide changes and rip current risks.

Our team operates with a relentless focus on ocean safety and rapid response. We adhere to rigorous training protocols to ensure every patrol is prepared for the unique conditions of the Outer Banks.

  • Daily physical training and surf swimming drills

  • Advanced life support and first aid certification

  • Specialized jet-ski (PWC) rescue coordination

  • UAV (Drone) supported surveillance techniques

  • Weekly simulated rescue scenarios and debriefs

Successful applicants are invited to participate in a rigorous physical beach assessment, including ocean swims and run-swim-runs.

A formal professional interview will determine final candidacy, focusing on team cohesion, communication, and safety mindset.
